Mr. RO is a 58 year old patient from Philippine with tongue cancer. He felt a mass on the right side of his tongue in February 2010, accompanying with painful oral ulcer. Enhanced CT scan at a local hospital revealed an occupying lesion on the right side of his tongue. Followed pathological analysis showed tongue cancer (Squamous-cell carcinoma, high differentiation).

In October 2010, he suffered from intermittent oral bleeding, with difficulty in eating and unclear speech. His condition progressed gradually.

Before his arrival in China, he could only eat water like food. His speech was quick and unclear. A protruding mass was noted in the root of his tongue, with muscular ulcer and bleeding. His pharynx was congenital. Multiple enlarged lymph nodes were observed beneath his right jaw. The size of the biggest one was about 3.0cm * 1.5cm. BUS test showed multiple enlarged lymph nodes in right cervical region. MRI scan showed tongue cancer, accompanying with enlarged lymph nodes on bilateral cervical regions. PET-CT examination revealed an abnormal region in the right half of tongue with abnormal active metabolism; the right half of tongue, the point of tongue, as well as the muscles at the bottom of the right tongue were also involved. SUXmax WAS 17.9, and the metabolism region was about 6.7cm * 3.1cm * 4.9cm. Metastases of lymph nodes were noted above the collarbone and neck region.

As his condition progressed, Mr. RO decided to have a try of cocktail cancer therapy at Carecure China’s cooperated cancer hospital.

Medical condition pre TCM treatment

The patient experienced a persistent bursting and unbearable headache. The degree of the headache was 9 – 10 on a 1-10 scale, including a feeling of numbness.
